Based on our ongoing monitoring of public health guidance, data and community sentiment, we've made the decision to update our COVID protocol. This decision is being made based on our commitment to the Mt. Shasta community, and with respect for everyone's health and well being while attending Grinduro.
Grinduro California is now requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccine or negative test results in order to attend the event and pick up your race number. Please see details below:
Fire season is getting worse every year. There are a number of wildfires currently burning throughout Northern California. The Dixie Fire in the Sierras has devastated communities and trail networks that many of us love, including the beloved Mt. Hough singletrack on the original Grinduro California event course in Quincy, CA. We are sending love to everybody impacted by the Dixie Fire and all others throughout Northern California, especially to our extended Grinduro family.
Fortunately, at the moment, there are no fires causing any threat to the new Grinduro CA venue or course in Mt. Shasta. You likely have heard of fires burning near Mount Shasta, but those are in reference to the actual mountain, not the town of Mt. Shasta where Grinduro CA is located. For clarity, we’ll refer to the physical mountain as “Mount Shasta” and the town where the event is located as “Mt. Shasta.” The current fires burning near Mount Shasta are on the other side of this extremely large mountain, and they are highly unlikely to get around to the Mt. Shasta side. Of course, this doesn’t mean that we won’t have new fires to worry about between now and September 18.
While the Grinduro CA area is not currently under threat of actual fire, there is the potential for air quality to be poor due to smoke blowing in from other fires. This is something that changes day to day depending on the direction and strength of the wind. Currently, some days the air is clear, and others are smokier. We are regularly monitoring the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Mt. Shasta. If the AQI is above 150 at the time of the event, we will be forced to cancel because the EPA guidelines consider this level unhealthy with negative health effects. You can learn more about the AQI and how it relates to your health by clicking here. If you would like to see current AQI data for Mt. Shasta, click here to visit AirNow.gov.
Of course, we have no way to predict what the fire or smoke situation will be one month from now. If there does need to be an event cancellation due to fire or excessive smoke, it will have to be a last minute cancellation because we simply won't know what the situation is until much closer to the event. Sadly, this is just the hazard of events on the West Coast in the current climate situation. Together, we all need to remain nimble on this issue until the last minute. Until then, we are not considering cancellation and moving forward with planning the best party we possibly can!
As a reminder, the Grinduro California Refund Policy is as follows:
No refunds will be available once registration is purchased. The only exception would be cancellation due to COVID-19 as outlined below. Races will be held rain, shine, sleet, or snow. In the event of extreme weather or natural disaster (including wildfire and related forest closures), the ride may be shortened, postponed, or canceled without refund.
Should the event be cancelled due to State Guidelines related to COVID, riders will have the option of:
If you’d like to transfer your race registration, we have a very long waitlist of people eager to claim a spot at Grinduro CA. To request a transfer, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your registration details (name and email on the registration), and we will coordinate a transfer to the next person on the waitlist. You will then receive a full refund Note that there is a $35 transfer fee, and the transfer must be complete by Friday, September 10.
We really appreciate your ongoing support and understanding as we work through all of these challenging situations. It is not an easy time to be an event organizer, and we are still charging hard to bring you an incredible event in Mt. Shasta.
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments related to COVID-19 or wildfires, or maybe you just want to let us know you’re excited to have a good time at Grinduro CA, please contact us at: email@example.com.
We’re still looking forward to some maxin’ and relaxin’ with our Grinduro family!
